Mobile Applications

Every once in a while when I am bored, I visit my phones app store. I look through games and tools, and just think about the profit some of these apps are making. An application such as Minecraft goes for $6.99 but you see that millions of people had already downloaded the game. Wow, this means that the creators have made millions just from the mobile version.

I did a deep analysis and found out that almost 92.67% of google apps are free to downloaded, and 84.10% of the apps are rated for everyone. $1.10 is the average price, and 4.173 is the average rating. So compared to the average, Minecraft is more expensive and has a better rating than most of the apps in the google play store.

And not surprisingly Game is the category with the most installs. Subway Surfers has 7.205% of the total game installations, which means almost a billion people has downloaded the app. However, when accounting for the average installs per category, communication type is the greatest at more than 35 million installations per app.

When separating the applications by content rating, we can see that apps that are rated for Everyone are the most common. However, we can see that apps rated Mature +17 creates the most revenue, and apps rated for Teens have the most number of average reviews. However, one thing to note is that most apps are created for everyone, only 15.90% percent is separated for teens and mature +17.

When looking at just paid applications we see that Finance is the top priced category with an average price of $170.64 per app, however there were only 17 finance apps that were paid. When looking at apps individually, we see that out of all the paid apps, the maximum price was $400. And interestingly, all the top priced apps had "rich" in the name. These apps were made so that rich people can simply buy the app to flaunt their money.

What can I take away from this?

If I create an app, I will rate it for Mature 17+ and price it $400. Hopefully, a rich and older person will buy my app to flaunt his money.
